On Sunday, November 23, 2008, My husband Rick and I dropped off at Summer Parrish's home 150 blankets with contributions spread among 18 different people/groups. Summer is Director of Development and Stewardship for Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA.org). LSSNCA.org works to rebuild lives through multiple programs including the resettling of 250-300 refugees each year as well as weekend leadership retreat/camp programs for teens and young adults with HIV/AIDS. In the bulletted items below, I've included Summer's appreciation of ALL our efforts:
Many thanks for organizing this...it took a lot of time and dedication. We really appreciate it! The children and families we serve are not only going to be warmer but will feel a little more like home having these blankets.
I've delivered a group of them to my colleague who oversees the Camp program; she is so thankful and knows the children will just love them!
I delivered the rest of the blankets to one of our refugee program offices yesterday. They were happily shocked! :) Truly, your group has given a wonderful gift. If anyone in the group is interested in going to help deliver some blankets to the homes, please let me know. We'd love to help facilitate that.
